In honor of Threadsy’s Back-to-School focus this month, Threadsy is beyond excited to highlight @craftingbymayra as Threadsy’s Creator of The Month. @craftingbymayra, also known as Mayra Aguilar, is a wonderful Latina teacher and crafter. Let’s explore Mayra’s crafting & teacher journey and what makes Mayra so wonderful & special!
Mayra has always been a crafty woman. However, Mayra explained that once she bought her first cutting machine, the Cricut Explore Air 2, in 2017 she then began utilizing t-shirts and other apparel in her craft projects. Mayra explained, “I was still in the classroom and I was influenced to make my own teacher tees and such because when I was a student teacher, my mentor teachers' would make us shirts all the time. She then told me what she would use to make them, a cutting machine which at the time seemed so high-tech and intimidating but eventually I got one for myself with no intention of ever selling my creations.” Since then, Mayra has been crafting and creating with apparel ever since!
Even though Mayra is no longer in the classroom, Mayra knew she wanted to be a teacher ever since she was little. It truly takes a person with a big heart to be a teacher, and Mayra 100% has a heart of gold! Mayra described, “my favorite part about teaching was how rewarding it was to grow with my students each and every year.” Mayra continues to create teacher-inspired craft projects for her many teacher followers and friends.
Mayra continues to make wonderful crafts to this day and shares her creations with her wonderful followers! Mayra explained that she is truly inspired by everything! Mayra specifically noted, “As a former teacher, any of my educator inspired products truly come naturally to me.” Mayra wonderfully showcases her products and will also show step by step on how to replicate her creations! Team Threadsy asked what Mayra’s favorite creation she has made thus far, and she responded, “This is tough. Most recently, I would have to go with my Shaker Clipboards. They are a true work of heART and so unique. I am more than proud of them!”
